“Aadat” Celebrating a Decade Success and The Impact is Still Undeniable
Really has it been a decade that Aadat
was released, still the song has a mesmerizing effect on people. The
general reaction when the song was first time gone viral is the same
now. This song brought a revolution the pop / rock music and which not
only status within the domestic boundary but listened beyond boundaries.
Embarked with a defined moment I the past Aadat is still relevant,
which is appalling, given that a decade has passed since it first hit
the airwaves.
Aadat was released on 2003 when two novice musicians named Atif Aslam and Goher Mumtaz released Aadat as the duo Jal, a track which was one of the biggest hit of its time and became the most popular song amongst youth.
When the representative of The Express
Tribune spoke to well-known Pakistani musicians regarding “why this song
Aadat has created such an impact and became a sensational hit in music
industry. He chooses not to give any comment with this regard despite
repeated attempts to contact him.
One of the famous guitar player, Asad Ahmed
when fist listened to Aadat before its official release he commented “I
still recollect when Atif and Goher first visited me through a common
acquaintance in order to get my feedback, in general they were clueless
about music and what they had created,” whenever we interact and thought
of the first meeting, he giggles and also expressed “To be frank, I
thought Atif’s voice was great and the song was simple yet catchy, but
never knew that it would become such a huge hit. But on the other note,
if you see that the game changers of Pakistani pop music have been very
simple yet record breaking compositions be it Dil Dil Pakistan, Dekha Na
tha by Alamgir or Aadat for that matter”
Even for the Mega star Atif Aslam
the sheer scale of Aadat’s success was unfathomable, he had the idea of
immense popularity the song gain when it was first aired, but it did
not sink in fully until a friend called him from Karachi to tell an
interesting story.
“Atif said: I was still aloof about
what had just started” recalls Atif. “Then, one evening, I got a phone
call few months after the release from a friend in Karachi who
eagerly told me that he’d gone shopping at a mall where he saw some
college kids sitting outside playing a guitar and singing the song Aadat. That was the first time I realized that this song was going to be something very special for the Pakistani youth.”
