IPL auction: Which franchise can spend the most?
Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have both retained five players each. This means they can spend only Rs 21 crore at the auction.
Rajasthan Royals have also retained five players but because two of them are uncapped players - Stuart Binny and Sanju Samson - they have a slightly larger purse of Rs 22.5 crore.
All three of these teams can use one right-to-match card at the auction and buy back one of their unretained players by matching the price fetched by them at the auction.
CSK and MI are likely to use their right-to-match cards on Albie Morkel and Mitchell Johnson respectively, if the price is right.
The right-to-match card, however, cannot be used to buy a capped India player.
Royal Challengers Bangalore have retained three players, which leaves them with a purse of Rs 30.5 crore and one right-to-match card.
Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad have retained two players each. That means they can spend Rs 38 crore at the auction and use two right-to-match cards.
Kings XI Punjab have also retained two players but one of them is the uncapped Manan Vohra. So they have a purse of Rs 43.5 crore and two right-to-match cards.
Delhi Daredevils have not retained a single player and thus have the largest purse - a whopping Rs 60 crore. They also have the most right-to-match cards - three.
They can use those cards to retain star batsmen Kevin Pietersen and David Warner.
The Daredevils cannot use the card for another star Virender Sehwag but can still buy him at the auction.
